Home schooling is a great option for any child with learning issues or for students who function better outside a normal school environment. There are many positive reasons that home schooling is the best option for some children. For example, the option of a more individualized learning plan can be helpful. However, there are some negative drawbacks to home schooling. One of them is that fact that the child will not interact with children on a daily basis as they would at a public or private school.

Students who are home schooled usually chat more online than in person. This can become a problem when their social skills are drastically reduced because they are more comfortable talking to an online friend that making ones outside of the internet. Many children become so isolated from society and so obsessed with cyber friends that they cannot formulate real friendships outside of the home. Home schooling does not allow a child to take part in activities with other children. This is because they are at home and at most, they only have their siblings to talk to. This creates a social isolation from the world, in which the child only knows how to make friends with their family. This will create a major disadvantage for them if they go to college. This is because they will not know how to interact with other college students and will feel uncomfortable in large social environments.

Many children will not be as isolated from other children if their parents allow sports or other activities. However, children still will be missing a very wonderful part of school. Schools teach children to share and wait their turn, which is vital to social interaction. If a child has not learned sharing or patience, then their ability to cope outside the home will greatly suffer. Many kids will not play with other kids that do not know how to do these things. This is because they are considering rude and often times a bully.

Being in a public or private school also makes the children learn independence. If a child is not independent, then the child will not make independent choices. This means that the child will not independently approach another person and start talking to them. Social skills become impacted when a child does not have enough independence to approach and socialize with other people. Some people’s social skills become a problem when they cannot independently choose what good qualities are and what bad qualities in a person are. If a person is not constantly, exposed to many people throughout the day, their judgment of people becomes hindered.
