Just to clarify some of the comments on here – water is not always necessarily needed for the baby to be properly hydrated as most of the water the baby needs is obtained from the breastmilk or formula milk, as some people rightly state, if somewhat childish in their reply.
However, formula milk can lead to dehydration of the baby which can cause constipation, among other things, in which case cooled, boiled water should be given too. If in doubt, ask your GP or Google symptoms of dehydration. -

Not force feeding but offer water regularly, let the infant do the talking; its not your body.
Wake up Call !!!:
Avoid Distilled Nursery Water for infants [a Wal-Mart product] it has added fluoride; studies have shown fluoride is not good for a developing brain and does not fight cavities as advertised.
In todays world buyers beware; as fluoride has been discovered to be an enemy to the body as appose to a friend.
Parents; if you desire distilled water get one without fluoride added.

And it’s also worth noting that babies remove milk from their tongue like everyone else; with saliva. Where does the saliva come from? The water in milk.
WATER-IN-MILK. Write it on your hand if you don’t trust your head; BABIES GET THEIR WATER FROM MILK.
They haven’t survived for millions of years on milk alone just to start dying now because you didn’t force feed them water.

Ugh. The effects of milk on a hot day are a good thing because milk contains the water the baby needs to perspire.
You’re being a boob; babies have been surviving on a diet of just milk for millions of years. Milk itself is specifically formulated so that when a child’s stomach is full and they are no longer hungry, they have taken in enough water to survive. By trading this evolutionary survival method for your own BS, you fill the child’s stomach up on water and it will become malnourished.

Also and increasing number of physicians are keeping water from infants saying milk only this is not normal.
For good health all babies should be permitted water to wash the sticky milk off their tongue and hydrate the body as nature intended. [especially in the summer heat ] If youre leery of water buy distilled for baby; but please do not withhold the water. If you follow your physician and refuse your infant water; at least consider putting drops of water on the tongue. -

Congrats!.
Yes because baby may disagree with something you ate which comes through the milk. Also the baby can have intestinal problems of its own that will cause conflict ion with breast milk or various formulas. Babies can get heartburn [acid reflux] just like adults.
If baby gets gas do the bicycle legs exercise, gently pressing the knees up to the abdomen; switch back and forth from single leg at a time to both legs same time. It amazingly helps relive gas build up in baby.
